Schools Find Sponsorship Teaches Valuable Lessons

Teachers are learning that sponsoring a child in another country offers valuable lessons to their students. By becoming sponsors, states Terry Antelman, Friends of the Orphans Sponsorship Coordinator, students take a personal interest in learning about social differences, geography, languages, caring for others, earning and donating money, and most importantly, our responsibility for Christian stewardship."

Some students earn money to support sponsoring a child by:

Holding car washes and bake sale
Suggesting donations for a godchild in lieu of birthday gifts
  Dog sitting or pet care
  Collecting cans
  Paying for uniform-free day

We're proud of the following schools and youth groups that recently began sponsorship programs:

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Pope John XXIII

St. Theresa

St. Francis Xavier

Brophy College Prep

Holy Spirit Teens

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

Xavier College Prep

SS. Simon and Jude

Seton Catholic High School

St. Marys High School

Felicitas, one of the members of the danza troupe from Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, who will visit Arizona in October during Celebration of Life Week.  Her sponsor is a class at Pope John XXIII.

In all, over 50 children have been sponsored through the school program during the past few months.

If you know of a class or youth group that would be interested in sponsoring a child, corresponding and learning more about a different culture, contact Terry at 480-967-9449 or 1-800-528-6455, or email her at
